During the month of January, ConnectLife shared blood donor stories, blood recipient stories, facts and figures, and talked about the importance of choosing a community blood bank when you choose to donate blood.
Did You Know?
Donating blood with ConnectLife is the ONLY way to ensure that your blood donations stay in Western New York. Why? Because we are the area's ONLY community blood bank.
Blood Recipient Stories of Hope
Drake is cancer-free! Drake McKane was able to meet 9 of the ConnectLife blood donors whose donation directly went to save Drake's life during his 2-year battle with cancer. Learn more about Drake and his donors here.
Memorial Blood Drive Highlight
ConnectLife also shared Christopher Krencik's memorial blood drive story. Christopher's mom, Sheryl, continues her son's legacy through hosting annual blood drives in his name. Christopher was able to give the gift of life as an organ donor. Because he was an organ donor, his family felt that a blood drive would be a good way to remember and honor his life.
The first annual Christopher Krencik memorial blood drive took place in 2009. Since 2009, 350 units of blood have been collected at his drives. 1 pint of blood can save up to 3 lives in our community, which means that 1,050 local patients have been potentially impacted by these blood drives throughout the past 11 years. That's incredible!

A Blood Donation Love Story?
Noel and Shelly Dill, the forces behind Rock Oak of Clarence Donor Day blood drives have quite an interesting connection to ConnectLife's mission.
Noel started donating blood as a teenager after his father asked if he wanted to tag along. Donating became routine for Noel until one day he thought about hosting a blood drive at his work, Rock Oak Estates.
He hosted several drives out there before deciding to move the drives to our Eastern Hills neighborhood donation center. It was at one of these drives that he met Shelly- a ConnectLife employee who was filling in for a coworker.
Sparks flew and the couple has been together for 10 years now; still hosting quarterly blood drives and working to engage their families and friends, community partners, and Rock Oak residents as a way to help pay it forward in the WNY community.
As Noel looks at it, donating blood is human nature and common sense. Just as if you were walking down the street and saw someone in need, you would help them.
