Kelly Luo is a great advocate for donating blood. She not only donates blood, but wants to help others understand the importance of donating and that it’s really not as scary as some think. She donates at the University at Buffalo. She chooses to donate because she thinks if someone's life hangs in the balance and there is even a remote chance that her contribution could save their life or alleviate their medical condition, she wants to be able to make that difference.
She says that donating blood is virtually effortless, yet it can make an incredible impact on someone's life. For those who are regular donors, their contribution could touch the lives of so many people, without them even knowing it.
Kelly also wants everyone to know that donating blood is not as scary as it sounds. Every phlebotomist she's encountered has been very welcoming and friendly. If you are feeling uneasy about it, you can choose not to look during the process or at the blood. She helped her younger brother through the uneasy feeling that he would get when it came to blood and needles. After she brought him to his first blood donation, his concerns subsided. The process is easier than you think and food is provided to make sure that after the donation, you will feel good as new!
