In 2009, New York became the first state to include an organ and tissue donor enrollment section on voter registration forms. The New York Alliance for Donation (NYAD) is heading a statewide campaign to increase the number of individuals who register as organ, eye and tissue donors through voter registration. The League of Women Voters of New York State has partnered on this project, which will also include research by the University at Buffalo into the decision-making process of registrants.
As part of this effort, Unyts will conduct voter registration drives in Western New York. We’re partnering with the League of Women Voters of Buffalo Niagara on drives in Erie and Niagara Counties. Voter registration forms will be available at the drives, and volunteers will offer information about voter registration as well as organ, eye and tissue donation.
Unyts and the League of Women Voters will be partnering on three voter registration drives in the coming weeks:
Sat., Aug. 15, 10am-2pm at the Eastern Hills Mall (food court area), 4545 Transit Road, Williamsville, NY 14221
Sat., Aug. 29, 10am-2pm at the Eastern Hills Mall (food court area), 4545 Transit Road, Williamsville, NY 14221
Wed., Sept. 2, 12-7pm at Harborcenter, 100 Washington Street, Buffalo, NY 14202 (during the One Buffalo blood drive)
