In 2007 at the age of 19, Samantha was diagnosed with IGM Nephropathy, which progressed to Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis, a leading cause of kidney failure in adults. Currently, her kidneys are functioning at 15%, compared to normal kidney function which is typically 60-100%. In May of 2017 Samantha was told that she had gone from Stage 4 to Stage 5 kidney failure and would have to start in-home dialysis.
Now Samantha is waiting for a kidney transplant. She has to depend on the generosity of the community in the hopes that someone will say yes to donation and help to save her life.
There are currently over 116,000 people waiting for an organ transplant in the United States, and 10% of this list lives right here in New York.
