Critical Need for Type O Blood Donors

Currently, ConnectLife has less than a three-day supply of type O blood available for patients in need. Due to recent traumas and an increase in demand at local hospitals, a strong turnout by donors this week is vital to ensure a safe blood supply.

Type O positive blood is the most commonly transfused blood type, and is needed by many hospital patients. Type O negative blood, the universal blood type, can be given to any patient in need and is often used in emergency situations when there is no time to determine the blood type of the patient.

ConnectLife is the primary supplier of blood products to Kaleida Health, ECMC, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Eastern Niagara Health, Wyoming County Community Health System, Olean General Hospital, Brooks-TLC Health System and Bradford Regional Medical Center. As WNY’s only community blood bank it is our responsibility to answer the call for blood products to ANY hospital in need, but we need help from blood donors to do that.

Anyone who is eligible to donate blood and has O negative or O positive type blood is urged to make an appointment immediately at or by calling 716.529.4270.
