While the intrinsic safety of the blood supply is not at risk from COVID-19, the availability of the blood supply is severely threatened due to a decrease in blood donor appointments and cancellation of blood drives. The coronavirus does not pose any known risk to blood donors during the donation process or from attending blood drives. The FDA has reiterated that there have been no reported or suspected cases of transfusion-transmitted coronavirus and the virus poses no known risk to patients receiving blood transfusions. It is SAFE to donate blood.
We are providing you with a joint news release that was distributed on behalf of the blood community, which includes a link to a media kit that contains videos from:
ConnectLife is the primary supplier of blood products to Oishei Children’s Hospital, Buffalo General Medical Center, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Degraff Memorial Hospital, ECMC, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Eastern Niagara Hospital, Wyoming County Community Health System, Olean General Hospital, Brooks-TLC Health System in Dunkirk and Bradford Regional Medical Center.
