ConnectLife has seen a tremendous response from our WNY community after our call for blood donors, but our work is not over. Collecting blood is a marathon, not a sprint. Blood donors are needed to consistently give now and in the future.
Remember the words of the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams: "Social distancing does not mean social disengagement."
We will be taking appointments ONLY, for the foreseeable future. Even if you can't find an appointment right now - local patients at WNY hospitals will still need you in the coming weeks. Click here to schedule your appointment to donate blood – appointments available throughout April and May.
Important Update: ConnectLife's Eastern Hills Blood Donation Center is moving to ConnectLife headquarters - effective immediately. We are continuing to monitor the outbreak of COVID-19. Information and resources on COVID-19, blood donation, and social distancing can be found here.

I have always been a heavy bleeder. I have a clotting disorder called Menorrhagia. My iron was affected by this. At my lowest point, I could not walk without struggling to breathe as I had very little oxygen in my blood. My hemoglobin was a 4..normal is a 12-15.
My doctor made me go to the hospital for blood typing and my very first transfusion. I was so upset by this! I felt sick knowing I had to have this blood..not my own. Then I realized that it saved me. After my first transfusion (3 bags of blood) I felt so good. I could walk! I could breathe!
Monthly, I was losing the blood I was given..so this happened 6 more times. Finally, I was sent in for a hysterectomy. It was a hard thing for me. I know I am lucky. I have my daughter, and she is a blessing, as I have been a diabetic my whole life-Type 1.
7 transfusions and a hysterectomy later..I was still not ok. I lost over 90 lbs and started shaking...all the time. Doctors discovered I have Graves disease..not only that, but Celiacs. The Celiacs was taking the iron..
I recently had my second infusion of iron.
I know I have struggled..but I really would not be here if it weren’t for Unyts and the people who donated. My daughter has her mother.
Thank you blood donors!
