Lisa Buttery never expected to become a regular blood donor.
Her first time donation was a unique experience for her. Lisa works at Emedco and the company held a blood drive a few months ago. She decided to donate and found out that she is type AB+. Considering that her blood type is greatly needed for cancer patients and organ transplants in Western New York, she decided to become a regular platelet donor. Donating platelets takes two hours, but makes such a big difference in the lives of so many. Lisa now donates every six weeks.
"It feels great that I can help make a gift of life in a way that other people can't", says Buttery. "It's a big commitment and it is time consuming, but I know it helps cancer patients and organ transplants."
