ConnectLife has seen a tremendous response from our WNY community after our call for blood donors, but our work is not over. Collecting blood is a marathon, not a sprint. Blood donors are needed to consistently give now and in the future.
Remember the words of the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams: "Social distancing does not mean social disengagement."
We will be taking appointments ONLY, for the foreseeable future. Even if you can't find an appointment right now - local patients at WNY hospitals will still need you in the coming weeks. Click here to schedule your appointment to donate blood – appointments available throughout April and May.
Important Update: ConnectLife's Eastern Hills Blood Donation Center is moving to ConnectLife headquarters - effective immediately. We are continuing to monitor the outbreak of COVID-19. Information and resources on COVID-19, blood donation, and social distancing can be found here.
Larry Morrow is a long time supporter of blood donation. Larry began giving whole blood with Unyts specifically in 2007 when he worked at Niagara Hospice and blood drives were held right at work. He has since retired and continues to donate platelets at the Unyts Eastern Hills Neighborhood Donation Center. Larry said that it feels good to give back, and donating platelets is not as hard as some people think it might be. Larry and his wife have many friends at church who have been touched by blood donation and the Unyts mission. In addition, Larry knows firsthand the importance of donating. When he was a youngster, at eight years old, he was struck by a drunk driver while crossing the street. He sustained serious injuries which resulted in needing a blood transfusion and also put him in a body cast for six months – a trying time in his life!
From Larry, “The nurses are great people and all you have to do it sit around and let other people pamper you. My donation through Unyts is but a small portion of what I have received myself. I appreciate the opportunity to give back with the blood God has given me. My donation is one way for me to express my thanks. God has blessed me with many more platelets than I need, and I have no use for all the extra ones. If the platelets help others to heal, recover, or even live through some traumatic event, then God Bless them. I am more than willing to give the little back that I am able. Thanks to all the workers at Unyts that make the experience as pleasant as possible. They each do an exceptional job in making sure all my needs are met while here. My wife, Allie, and I are treated very well, much like family while here.”
