ConnectLife has seen a tremendous response from our WNY community after our call for blood donors, but our work is not over. Collecting blood is a marathon, not a sprint. Blood donors are needed to consistently give now and in the future.
Remember the words of the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams: "Social distancing does not mean social disengagement."
We will be taking appointments ONLY, for the foreseeable future. Even if you can't find an appointment right now - local patients at WNY hospitals will still need you in the coming weeks. Click here to schedule your appointment to donate blood – appointments available throughout April and May.
Important Update: ConnectLife's Eastern Hills Blood Donation Center is moving to ConnectLife headquarters - effective immediately. We are continuing to monitor the outbreak of COVID-19. Information and resources on COVID-19, blood donation, and social distancing can be found here.
You don't always need to have a story behind why you started to donate blood. Sometimes you just know it's the right thing to do. For one dedicated Unyts blood donor, this is exactly the case. Andrea Johnson donates regularly with Unyts because she knows it's important.
"I donate because it's important. I donate because there's so much bad in the world that I'd like to contribute to something good," she explained. "I donate because it's helping human, but mostly, I donate because I can."
Andrea is a regular platelets donor at our Eastern Hills Mall Community Blood Donation Center and she enjoys it the most because it's given her time to get to know the Unyts staff.
"With donating platelets I've had enough time to form relationships with some of the wonderful Unyts employees." She's pictured above with Colleen, our RN Supervisor in the Blood Donor Services department.
While she's never had the need to receive blood, she knows how important it is to give and encourages everyone to do so.
"It's important for people to know that at some point they may need to receive blood for themselves. Please donate if you can. Pay it forward."
