I was past my due date, and my doctor thought that inducing labor would be the best option. Unfortunately after a long labor, I was unable to give birth naturally and a c-section became necessary. The procedure went well and my handsome baby was delivered safely, but afterwards I began losing a large amount of blood because my uterus stopped doing its job. This caused my blood to stop clotting. Once they got the bleeding somewhat under control I was administered two blood transfusions.
Donating blood seems like such a small act, but to those who receive those donations it is a monumental action. It is something that everyone (that is capable) should consider doing. The short time it takes someone to donate can add a lot of time to the person receiving that donation, and to them that donor is a hero.
Everyone who donates blood is granting those in need the means to continue appreciating the small and large joys in life. I am so thankful for the people that took time out of their day to donate blood as they helped to save my life.
While I have always supported and participated in donating blood, I never fully understood the importance of it until I was on the receiving end. It has made me appreciate the little things and also opened my eyes to how important those who donate blood are. Without those transfusions things could have taken a very wrong turn and I may not be here today to appreciate my bundle of joy.
