Amilyn Scott is a new platelet donor, but she’s far from new to helping out our community. She’s passionate about giving back to the community in any way possible, whether it’s through monetary donations, volunteering or donating blood.
“I recently donated platelets for the first time since I found out platelets are critical for cancer patients. Cancer patients have a special place in my heart,” she explained. “In both 2013 and 2016 I shaved my head and donated my hair through participation in the Bald for Bucks program to raise awareness and money for cancer research at Roswell Cancer Institute.”
Already helping the community in so many ways, Amilyn said that donating blood is great because she knows that she’s making a difference in someone’s life.
“I find it amazing that my platelets will be transferred to a patient in need within 5 days of donating. Knowing you are helping to save someone's life is an indescribable feeling. It is simply amazing.”
Are you still debating about donating blood? Amilyn reminds us how important these donations are.
“There are so many people in need of blood and platelets transfusions. The donating is easy and the workers make you feel comfortable throughout the process,” she said. “You don't need money to make a difference in the world. Knowing you made a difference is someone's life is an amazing and truly life changing feeling.”
