Joy Murphy has two very important reasons to feel passionately about the importance of blood donation. Both she and her daughter are alive today because of the generosity of blood donors.
Joy’s daughter Evie was diagnosed with Leukemia on 2/5/15, and received whole blood and plasma transfusions while getting treatment. Joy received blood during the birth of her daughter Lucy on April 25, 2017. After about 7 hours of labor she started to hemorrhage due to an undiagnosed placental abruption. An emergency C-section was ordered because Joy was bleeding out and she and the baby's heartbeat were dropping fast. Joy received 2 units of blood, and both she and Lucy were saved.
Joy wants the community to know that donating blood is fast and simple. Plus, every time you donate you save mothers, sisters, and daughters like Joy, Evie and Lucy. By donating blood you ensure that people like Joy are here to raise their children.
