Sara feels very strongly about being a blood donor because she is someone who has faced numerous health issues since birth. She was a preemie, born two months early with her liver and intestines outside of her body. Sara is not certain whether or not she needed blood at that time, but because of the help of others, she is here today.
A few short years back Sara also experienced another health condition that could have required her to receive numerous transfusions. Luckily, the need for transfusions never transpired. In addition, Sara’s infant son had been diagnosed with a hole in his heart at 3 months old. The hole repaired itself, but the feeling of what could have happened was frightening. Knowing that her life and her son’s life has hinged on the actions of others has always encouraged Sara to donate blood.
Sara says that the best part about donating blood is the feeling of euphoria you get by helping those in need in your community because after all, this is Buffalo, the city of great neighbors! Sara also helps run blood drives for Unyts at Bryant and Stratton in Amherst and does an excellent job!
