Buffalo Bandits step in to support blood donation after a hard month for hospitals
Buffalo’s winningest professional sports franchise is throwing its support behind the lifesaving mission of blood donation in Western New York. As the Bandits go for their fourth NLL championship in a row, they’re also helping ConnectLife blood donors show off their orange and black pride.
All February long, donors at ConnectLife centers and mobile drives will walk away with exclusive Bandits t-shirts, perfect for celebrating their selfless donation while cheering on the defending champs. The Bandits’ support comes at a crucial time for Western New York’s only community blood bank after one of ConnectLife’s hardest months on record.
“Winter storms disrupt all of our lives in Buffalo, but they were especially hard for the business of getting blood for local hospitals,” said Sarah Diina, Senior Director of Communications & External Affairs at ConnectLife. “All of that snow meant we lost more than two dozen blood drives in January, leaving us some 700 donations short of where we would normally be to start the year. Hospitals really need help from local donors to help them catch up in February.”
Donors also receive rewards points with every donation that can be redeemed for Buffalo Sabres and ConnectLife gear in the online store, as well as e-gift cards. ConnectLife is particularly in need of platelet donors, who also receive a $10 e-gift card with every donation.
All the blood donated to ConnectLife stays local, helping nearly every hospital in WNY’s eight counties maintain safe inventory levels. Donation appointments are available at centers in Williamsville, West Seneca, and Tonawanda, as well as mobile donation sites around the area each day. To schedule an appointment, visit ConnectLifeGiveBlood.org or call 716.529.4270.
