ConnectLife to celebrate with its first donor making 300th donation!
Craig Schettler is the first to hit the milestone at WNY’s community blood bank
A Western New Yorker who has been saving countless lives in his community for nearly a decade and a half will be hitting an incredible milestone later this month. Craig Schettler will be at ConnectLife’s Southgate Donation Center at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25th to become the first ConnectLife donor to reach 300 donations.
ConnectLife will be recognizing that incredible achievement with a certificate and gift to Mr. Schettler at his donation. Only 70 of the nearly 140,000 ConnectLife donors have ever reached 100 donations.
Adding up the time of all those donations, Craig has spent close to 25 full days in a ConnectLife donation chair. And each of those visits has meant platelets would be available for a Western New York cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy, a serious burn victim, or a patient with a bleeding disorder.
“To me, it’s not an accomplishment. The need is there and if I can help in any way, I will,” said Schettler, who says he initially switched from whole blood to platelet donations because the chairs looked comfier and platelet donors got a free lunch. “The years went on and I never looked back. All the staff has been amazing throughout the years; their compassion and professional humbles me.”
Mr. Schettler is available for an interview during his donation October 25th at 10 a.m., as is a ConnectLife representative. There will also be photo and video opportunities for his recognition by ConnectLife. As WNY’s only community blood bank it is our responsibility to answer the call for blood products to ANY hospital in need, but we need help from blood donors to do that.
