Eye Donation Month 2025 celebrates "Everyday Heroes"

ree

November is Eye Donation Month, and ConnectLife is raising awareness about the life-transforming opportunities that are created through eye donation. Eye Donation Month 2025 is centered on the theme, “Everyday Heroes.” This emphasizes the fact that nearly anyone has the potential to be a cornea donor – everyday individuals have the ability to be a hero by registering as a donor and giving the life-transforming power of restored sight.

In 2024, there were 725 people who became eye donors through ConnectLife.

The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye. It can be transplanted, restoring sight for those with cornea-related blindness. The success rate of corneal transplantation is higher than 95 percent.

Unlike organ donation, blood types do not have to match between a cornea donor and the recipient.

A person can become a cornea donor, regardless of vision, age, race, religion, or blood type. Aside from a few highly communicable diseases, nearly anyone can be a cornea donor.

ConnectLife is an accredited member of the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA). Since 1961, EBAA eye banks have restored sight for nearly 2.5 million individuals worldwide. Currently there are an estimated 12 million people around the world suffering from corneal blindness that may be corrected with a cornea transplant.

It all starts with registering to be an eye, organ, and tissue donor and sharing your decision with your family and loved ones. Learn more about registering as a donor.
