Story as told by Daxon's mom, Lydia
We have always supported blood donation. But after becoming parents, we learned what it feels like to depend on someone else's generosity.
When our son Daxon was just 7 days old, he underwent open-heart surgery. To be placed on the heart-lung bypass machine, he needed donated blood. That blood came from someone we will never know. A complete stranger took one hour out of their day, and because they did, our son had the chance to receive the life-saving surgery he needed.
Someone else's blood became part of our son's heartbeat.
Today he is thriving, and every laugh, every milestone, and every birthday is a reminder that someone chose to give. So now, when we donate blood, it means something different.
It's our way of saying thank you to the person we can never thank in person. It's our way of paying forward the gift that changed our family's story. We will probably never know the person whose donation helped save our son's life, but we'll spend the rest of ours honoring that gift.
We are so grateful to our church, Vessel, for sponsoring a yearly blood drive so more members and those in the community have an opportunity to give another family a miracle.
