Is ConnectLife a part of the American Red Cross?

There has been some confusion lately concerning us (ConnectLife) and the American Red Cross. Are we affiliated? Are we the same organization?

The short answer is we are NOT!

While the Red Cross does important work across the country and around the globe, ConnectLife operates independently as a federally designated not-for-profit organ procurement organization and community blood bank.

ConnectLife is Western New York’s only community blood bank, meaning we collect, process and distribute the blood donated through our blood drives right here in Western New York for local patients in need. The Red Cross can’t say that.

Our donors help supply the blood products (whole blood, double red cells, and platelets) that are desperately needed at Kaleida Health, ECMC, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Brooks Memorial Hospital, Bradford Regional Medical Center, Olean General Hospital and Wyoming County Community Health System. In addition, we supply Catholic Health and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center with blood products when needed.

That means ConnectLife donors are responsible for over 75% of the blood on the shelves at our local hospitals.

Our headquarters are located in Williamsville, New York, and we have Neighborhood Blood Donation Centers in Williamsville, Tonawanda, and West Seneca. Thanks to our blood drive sponsors, we host blood drives across the community six days a week. (Just typically not on Sundays.)

If you are interested in saving lives and being a part of ConnectLife’s mission, please schedule an appointment to donate blood. You can visit ConnectLifeGiveBlood.org or call 716-529-4270 to talk with someone from our team.

We look forward to seeing you in the future.
