Shawn J. McMullen was a son, a brother, a friend, a 19 Delta Cavalry Scout in the U.S. Army, and ultimately, an organ donor. A courageous and caring man, he worked to comfort and help others. Even while battling his own injuries, Shawn volunteered his time assisting elderly veterans and providing comfort to hospitalized infants.
In September 2015, Shawn became a hero to many, when his selfless act of organ donation gave the Gift of Life to five people. Through corneal donations, Shawn additionally provided two others the opportunity to see again.
The non-profit organization Shawn’s Heroes for Life continues his legacy by honoring and enhancing the lives of veterans and those in need, and by increasing organ donation awareness.
As Shawn’s family and friends mark 10 years since his passing, they have planned several special events:
A memorial blood drive with ConnectLife will take place Saturday, November 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 100 College Pkwy., Williamsville, NY 14221. Whole blood and double red cell donation appointments are available at
The Shawn’s Heroes for Life 9th annual fundraiser will be Sunday, November 9 from 12:30-4:40 p.m. in the Reikart House ballroom on Main Street in Amherst. The event will include a Buffalo Bills viewing party.
